I just discovered a great site for buying manga and manhwa. Justmanga.com practically has all the manga/manhwa I could dream of... most of them at a discount! I ordered a few books just a few days ago to see how long it would take and if the books will come in good condition. According to the site, it would take 2 weeks for me to get my order. Not bad, compared to the 18 to 32 business days Amazon promises for it's standard shipping. Plus, Jusmanga.com's shipping rates are sweet; the cheapest I found online.
Anyway, I've browsed several review sites and created a manga/manhwa wishlist. Basically, I'm the type who loves romantic comedies so obviously all the items on my wishlist would reflect that. Here's what I have so far...
Ok, so I do have an impossibly large amount of manga/manhwa series in my wishlist, but a girl can dream, right?
This manga title is more like a collection of short stories than a novel. Basically, it's about a group of mysterious stylists called The Knockout Makers. They take on different girls and turn them into knockouts. This particular volume has around 4 or 5 stories, which makes for an entertaining but light read.
If you're looking for something you'll get immersed into, then this is not for you. There isn't a smidgen of unpredictability or suspense in the stories. However, if you're looking for something to pass the time during a lazy Sunday, then this might just be the book to read.
How far would you go to meet your favorite boy band? Keum-Ji was little late getting under the spell of the chart topping boy band DDL. Unable to join the DDL fan club, she almost gives up meeting her idols until she develops a cunning plan, becoming a top member of their rival fan club for a brand-new boy group, Yo-I (Chocolat). This way she can always be near Yo-I at all their concerts. Funnily enough Yo-I always seem to play the same shows with DDL. It's almost the perfect plan except it's really complicated being a super fan for one band when your heart lies with another. Follow the adventures of Keum-Ji in this full-blown romantic comedy as she tries to keep her scheme together.
This is the first manhwa I bought and I'm glad I started out with this one. I loved it! It was funny, entertaining, and sweet. I started out thinking it was too shallow for me but it certainly grew on me. It would be great if I could collect this series.
The only problem right now is that since it's Korean and not that popular, it might be difficult to find the entire series locally. When I bought this book, I only found volumes 1 and 3 on stock. The good thing though is that Amazon has this on stock so if all else fails and I can't find one, I can always order online. I just hope I don't have to resort to this since international shipping is not exactly cheap.
The purpose of this blog is simple: to catalog my comic book collection and to keep track of my wish list. Right now, my collection is puny and my wish list is a mile long. Hopefully, this status will change someday. However, since I'm not made of cash, I'm giving myself some time to accomplish this.
What do I collect, you ask? I collect shojo manga and manwha. This simply means girls' manga and manhwa. Here's a quick intro for those who are unfamiliar with these comic book terminologies:
Manhwa are Korean comics, which read left-to-right. Manhwa and manga are the same word (same kanji), they simply have a different pronounciation in Korea and Japan. Korean and Japanese comics are very similar, but they each have their own unique feel due to stylistic and cultural differences. Learn more about the differences between manhwa and manga at Tangerine Dreams and Manga Life.
Despite their differences, I like them both. I must admit though, that I prefer manhwa just a bit over manga. However, the availability of manhwa in my local stores is a bit limited. The good thing is, Amazon.com does have them on stock most of the time so maybe I'll try ordering from there someday.
So if you're new to these comic books I highly recommend that you try them. I'll put together a recommendation list sometime in the future so watch out for that.
